embracing reality ? ...

all species provide at least one function in an ecosystem. each function is an integral part of regulating the species balance, species diversity and species health, all aspects which are intrinsic for the ecosystem as a whole to survive and prosper.
just like a species with high genetic diversity, an ecosystem with high biodiversity may have a greater chance of adapting to environmental change.

Loved your post.ecosystem with high bio-diversity- an absolutely fascinating "system" it is.
How complex yet appears to function simply and smoothly like a well oiled machine..until "intelligent beings" start to mess with it.But apparently "they have a greater chance of adapting to envtl change"...which is great news!:)

And Suresh..I came to know of something even more fascinating and interesting:The Forest Canopy Ecosystem!
Didnt even know there was such a thing.Almost had a chance to hear Dr Nalini Nadkarni, an internationally known canopy expert, talk about it; but on the day of her talk(almost started with her talk) she took ill and had to be rushed to the hospital.Huge disappointment it was.
The title of her talk was
"Prisons, Pulpits, and Poets: Disseminating Conservation Research Beyond Academia". I was so intrigued by the title..but my bad luck!

Honestly don't understand a thing Suresh.
I don't know what high bio diversity is and why it should exist. What ever diversity we have, seems to be in order, each one interdependant its been going on for millions of years of evolution. It has to be complex and functional, otherwise our planet would be like planet jupiter, unlivable.
Species are evolved or gone extinct all for good reasons, Evolution has taken wrong turns and comitted blunders too. What ever damage we humans cause hardly ever matters, as the total damage from past 500 years is less than a second for our 4.5 billion year old planet. With all the efforts to save the environment the planet may decide to freeze itself as it has happened before. Natural disasters like tsunamis, floods, hurricanes, tornados earthquakes have caused more damage than the humans ever did. Such disasters have been reported even in the epics or holy scriptures, these are not recent phenomena. We are utterly helpless to stop such disasters from happening.

We have to save ourselves not the planet, we are too small to damage save or 'improve' the environment. We can only talk about it.

Suresh, I like the contrast of this picture and the previous one. I know you tie your photos in with a reason, but I am not very good with talking about the environment, understanding hidden meanings, etc. I feel I lack the knowledge to discuss/argue/agree with some topics you present. So, if I don't respond to your main subject, that is why, not because I am ignoring your writing. I do read, but sometimes it is confusing to me, because I haven't read as much about that subject or know as much about it as you.

I agree with Rauf's comment above, except for the millions/billions of years, as I believe the earth is only 8-10 thousand years old, but that is not the point. I just wanted to say, I am still enjoying your posts!!!

And thanks so much for all the comments you leave on my site! I hope you're getting my replies to them and that the email I'm sending them to is correct.

Hugggggs!
