embracing diversity ? ...

a good education is an education that is accessible to everyone, and to everyone at the same quality. the result is an equality that we have come to expect in our lives. but we also have come to expect a recognition of diversity, the very antithesis of equality. to provide equal education and exposure to a diverse population thus requires to define precisely what we mean by equality and what we mean by diversity. now, how relavant are the fungi's that we see in the picture ?

Suresh, we talked about this in my government class. education is usually equal so that white people as well as black people and disabled people, etc. can all get an education. there are of course different classes, which makes everyone know different things, but that is not unfair, because if I want to take the same classes as someone else, I can, but it is my choice what I want to take, based upon what I want to do with my future. just because we all end up taking different jobs and there is diversity doesn't mean it is unfair. my teacher said at high schools, they have a thing that allows the 20(or more?) students with the top grades to automatically get a college scholarship, whether they are black, white, etc. It doesn't matter who you are as long as you've aquired high grades. This is equality. Of course, nothing is completely fair, but schools try to be. It allows everyone from different backgrounds, once we are done with our education, the same opportunites as long as each student has done the same amount of studying/learning/classes. But if only one job is available and me and another student have both had the same education, then they must look at our other qualifications and charateristics rather than education. That is how education is fair. There are of course unfair teachers, unfair rules, unfair people who cheat, manipulate, etc. to get what they want, but I think for the most part, education is fair.

sorry for the long writing. don't know if i made any sense.

i really love your fungi/treebark photo. it is very beautiful!!!

hi rauf ... to start with, equality is not possible, nowhere in nature. my intend on the writing is, how do we preserve the much needed diversity (natural) through an education system that means the same to the majority.
